This weekend was a blast for us as a staff. In fact one of the most important things about the weekend time is that the staff gets to unwind a little and just simply fellowship with one another. This weekend we had a relaxing evening at our hotel on Friday night and then on Saturday we took the staff to Slide Rock National Park in Arizona. This is a place with natural rock slides as well as many pools to jump in that are deep enough to have some fun in. It was great to see the staff enjoy the water on an extremely warm day and to see them climbing up the rocks and jumping 25 feet into pools of water. It was clear that it helped them relax in their final preparations for camp this week.
Opening day came and went. We are on the Northern Arizona campus in Flagstaff, Arizona and boy is it dry up here. We had to buy all the staff chap stick last night because the high altitude was already getting to the staff (and their lips). This group of students that we have are not quite excited to be at camp as the students last week. This probably took some of our less experienced staff by surprise because normally our Arizona students are all about camp. We also have some logistical problems in that it is a twenty minute walk from our dorm to the meeting room. This allows for lots of time to talk, but also stretches the schedule as now we have to flex to make time for the commute to and from. This will definately be a challenge this week that we will have to face head-on.
This is also the week where the staff begins to feel like they have things figured out in small group and they begin to get confident in their own ability to lead. Many times this results in them failing because they are trusting in themselves and not God working through them. After talking with them, hopefully they can recognize that and yield to the Holy Spirit in order to reach these students.
To give you an update on our housing situation, there really is no update other than we are gathering more exact financial figures as to what it will cost to rent an apartment or potentially purchase a house. At this point because of escalating prices in Midland, purchasing a house is probably out of the question this year, but it is something we are still considering. Please pray for discernment in this situation and pray that God will reveal Himself to us through these circumstances. We do know, though, that we will not be homeless as we have had several people offer rooms in their houses for us to stay in, but we would prefer to find a place of our own. Please keep us in your prayers.
Each day we are on campus we know and recognize that it is through God's grace alone that we are here. We know that He has us here for a great purpose. You have allowed us to serve with Worldview throughout this year and we are so thankful for the sacrifices you have made to allow us to serve. Please consider coming by and seeing some of our program when we are at our Oregon camp the second week of July. We will be at Linfield College. We can bring more details at a later time, but we would love you to come see us in action. May you be blessed today and throughout the remainder of this week.
