We are nothing more than the instruments God chooses to accomplish His purposes and ultimately, His glory. Every Sunday morning as a staff we take intentional time to share how the Lord is teaching us and encouraging us. There was a common theme during this time of sharing. The Lord has been teaching all of us that it is nothing that we do, but it is all the Lord. One of our staff spoke of a time last week when things were not going well; he had just had his backpack stolen and as a result was without many of his notes for small group and without his Bible. He went on to explain how the Lord used his total dependance to produce one of his best small group times this summer. He was taught in an obvious way that the Lord doesn't need him to do all of the work.
It is so encouraging to know that through our fumbled words, the Lord still uses those to have an impact. Too often we see ourselves in a way that encourages us to trust in our own abilities, failing to realize that any abilities we have are God-given; we are nothing more than what God allows us to be. He is the one who is in control. It is all about Him.
It was exciting to listen to our staff as many of them described similar experiences because each described it as something they already knew, but had now experienced it in a way they hadn't before. It is not a right to be an instrument of God, but it is a privelage and as followers of Christ, we get the distinct privelage and also the important responsibilty of being that instrument. May the Lord continue to be glorified in your life and in your heart.
