Well, we are now sitting in the lobby of a building on the campus of Northwestern college, and well the stormy weather as followed us. Last week we had weather almost every night and then last night, Thursday we had a camp director's nightmare, a tornado warning. I just happened to check the weather that evening and saw the tornado warning posted at 11:45 pm, we quickly rallied our troops and had the students in the lobby three minutes later, which was quick work. We then got to hang out in a dorm lobby basement in the hallway for 45 minutes. Though it could have been a stressful situation, our staff was fantastic. They did a great job of keeping the students occupied and smiling and just generally downplaying the entire situation.
Shortly after having the students all sit in the hallway one of our staff started leading a few of the kids in a praise song. Within seconds almost the entire camp was worshipping the Lord, sitting in the hallway of a basement of a dorm in that tornado warning. It was actually quite a neat thing to observe. There happened to be another camp that was staying in that same dorm and it was interesting to see the contrast in attitudes. The other camp was a leadership camp also, but when the tornado warning occurred their leaders could only say, "hey it's all good". "It's all good," was all they had. They couldn't say that their god was watching over them or that God causes all things to work together for good.
So, as a hallway full of young Christian leaders was singing and praising their Lord and Savior through the midst of that tornado warning, at the other end of the hallway was a group of people who could only try and stimulate deceptive emotions telling themselves that everything was "all good".
