Next Step

So we are here at the first week of October and things are beginning to feel like fall here in Midland. I know it is crazy to think about because it has been so hot here and is still warm (80's) but it feels more like fall than it has since well, probably last fall. The office is busy getting ready to prepare for our fall camps coming up at the end of this month. We used to have just one fall camp in the Austin, Texas area but this year we have added a fall camp in New Mexico as well. We have been asked several times why we added a second fall camp in New Mexico.

It honestly has been something that we have talked about over the last several years about adding a second fall camp, but most of those discussions have involved adding a second fall camp in the state of Texas. Generally at our fall camps we have almost all homeschool students. We do have several Christian schools who send some of their students to camp and even get public school kids once in a while. As we were preparing for our camp season of 2010 and planning out which campuses we were going to hold our camps on we ran into a roadblock with our southern California camp. There were some conflicts with some of the dates we requested to rent out facilities and it became clear that we were going to have to hold camp there earlier than we have had it in that location before. So as we were looking at our schedule we decided that since the camp that we had had at University of New Mexico for the last three years had been staying right about 60 students that we would go ahead and cut it for the year so that our schedule would work out more smoothly. Then as we were at fall camp last year I came up with the idea of adding New Mexico as a second fall camp. This would work because it was primarily homeschool students that attended the New Mexico camp during the summer and it was to be scheduled the week after out Texas fall camp so we could carry over most of our staff between the two camps.

So, all of that to say that we are excited about our next step in the fall and looking to see how these two camps work out. If they do well and we continue to see students interested in our fall camps, we may just continue to expand them. We will see what happens.
